OUT NOW! The Definitive Albert White

Music Maker Foundation is proud to announce a new album by Atlanta-based blues artist Albert White. The Definitive Albert White releases on the Music Maker label March 7, 2025.

The Definitive Albert White marks the culmination of the artist’s 70-year career, as well as the 30th anniversary of White becoming a Music Maker partner artist. It was recorded at the nonprofit’s new recording studio in Fountain, NC, which officially opened its doors in 2024.

“As we opened Music Maker Studios last year in Fountain, NC, the first artist I wanted to get in there was our old trusted partner Albert,” says Tim Duffy, executive director and co-founder of Music Maker Foundation. “At 82, his voice and guitar are still getting better year after year.”

The nephew of Atlanta R&B legend Willie Lee “Piano Red” Perryman, White began playing with his uncle’s band as a teenager. He went on to develop his unique style on the college circuit in the 1960s and ‘70s before performing alongside Ray Charles, Ben E. King, Joe Tex, and countless others. White was introduced to Music Maker in 1995 through fellow blues guitarist Beverly “Guitar” Watkins, and soon became a mainstay of the Music Maker Blues Revue, playing hundreds of shows across the world with dozens of the nonprofit’s partner artists.

White is an intuitive sideman and expert guitarist, but The Definitive Albert White showcases one of his best assets: a deep, expressive voice that’s conversational yet soulful, blues-burdened yet agile.

“Albert had all these arrangements in his head, and we just did them,” says producer Jimbo Mathus. “He’s so focused and positive, exuberant. The goal was just to put him in the spotlight, man. This is his definitive statement.”
