Freeman Vines film screened at C-TAC Summit 2024

“Nobody ever described to me what the feeling of happiness was. Fact be I’d never thought about it. That’s a powerful word: happy.” - Freeman Vines

From October 21-22, 2024, Music Maker co-founders Tim and Denise Duffy had the pleasure of attending the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care (C-TAC) National Leadership Summit with David Jones, Jr – a longtime Music Maker supporter and board member who also serves on C-TAC’s board of directors. C-TAC brings together health care providers, policy makers, community advocates, and caregivers to work towards a future where all persons impacted by serious illness, especially those who are underserved and under-resourced, have a high quality of life on their own terms. Music Maker and C-TAC share the goal of amplifying the voices of those marginalized by age and illness, valuing their wisdom and respecting their wishes for self-determination.

This summer, C-TAC commissioned a short film on Freeman Vines and Music Maker’s work supporting him and his caregivers so he can live out his remaining days independently, pursuing his art despite a difficult cancer diagnosis.

Sooner or later, we will all care for someone at the end of their lives – or (hopefully) be cared for ourselves. Here is what Freeman and his sister Alice Vines had to share about his journey…
